Fujitsu brings focus to digital transformation at World Tour event

Digital transformation for business was the focus for more than 600 attendees at the Fujitsu annual World Tour held in Sydney, with speakers examining how organisations can work together to create new possibilities for business and society through transformation.

The full-day event on Tuesday focused on helping business leaders understand how they can use the power of co-creation to deliver new and tangible value within their organisations, for their customers, and for wider society.

Keynote speakers were Dr Joseph Reger, CTO, Fujitsu EMEIA, on human-centric innovation and Dr Alex Bazin, VP head of IoT Global, Fujitsu, on the myths about digital transformation.

The event included customer breakout, theatre and roundtable sessions as well as a panel discussion on ‘embracing the challenges of digital’, featuring Carrie Marr, CEO, Clinical Excellence Commission.

Panelists participating in the discussion on reconciliation included Adam Goodes, CEO and director, Indigenous Defence and Infrastructure Consortium; Jesse Slok, co-founder, Bawurra Foundation; Liam Ridgeway, co-founder, Indigitek and Donna Reddin, Procurement Manager at Laing O’Rourke.

Mike Foster, CEO, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said, “Fujitsu World Tour brings the breadth of Fujitsu’s capability to Australia. We are showcasing Fujitsu’s global connected services capability alongside our ecosystem of partners to demonstrate the benefits of co-creation. Our aim is to educate business leaders to be able to make informed decisions that will impact the future success of their organisations.”

Fujitsu says the event also showcased some of the company’s latest innovative technology and services, including:

  • LiveTalk for healthcare: an AI-based diversity communication tool featuring a multilingual translation function, facilitating smooth communications in 19 languages with real-time speech recognition and automatic translation. Applications include triage and help desk scenarios where efficient multi-language communication is essential.
  • Smart eWaste bins: equipped with IoT sensors that monitor fill levels, smart eWaste bins automatically alert recycling partners to collect the bin when it’s full, taking the waste away to be processed onshore in certified facilities, protecting data,  human health and the environment by diverting eWaste from landfill.
  • PalmSecure for education: Fujitsu’s unique palm vein authentication technology collects biometric data from over five million data points, making it one of the most secure biometric authentication systems available. Some of the uses demonstrated were exam identification, locker access, and library access.
  • The Heart Explorer: a three dimensional display of a human heart that has been modelled using Fujitsu’s supercomputer. Heart Explorer is based on the results of a heart simulator that reproduces heart behaviour in exquisite detail so that the heart can be modelled in 3D for observation and analysis, enabling more efficient study of the heart and of heart disease.
  • Native bees: Fujitsu has installed a hive of native stingless bees on the property occupied by one of its data centres. Some of the honey from the hive was available for tasting at the event.
  • IoT solutions for workplace health and safety including a driver drowsiness detector for transport: a wearable sensor device that detects when drivers are drowsy/fatigued, the product monitors the driver’s pulse via a sensor attached to the earlobe, gauges drowsiness, and notifies the driver and, if appropriate, their vehicle fleet manager.
  • Fire service RFID application: RFID tags and intelligent monitoring assists fire crews to keep track of the various pieces of equipment they need in the field. In-field inventory management helps prevent loss of expensive items.
  • Liquid cooled servers for the data centre: a Fujitsu-developed liquid immersion cooling system sees servers directly immersed in a non-conductive fluid with high thermal transport capacity. The inert fluid captures the heat generated by submerged server and transfers it from the bath to the heat exchanger in the coolant distribution unit (CDU), which then exchanges the heat with a water loop and expels it outside the data centre via a cooling tower.
  • A suite of solutions focused on Smart Cities, including a city-wide surveillance scenario based on Fujitsu’s geospatial big data platform, SPATIOWL as well as 360-degree video monitoring and analytics solution designed for police vehicles and flood management and monitoring.
  • The iMirror, which provides shoppers with an immersive in-store experience, tailored service and personalised offerings through a unique integration of wearable technology, online commerce and the physical store.

“The technologies on display at the Fujitsu World Tour were just a taste of the potential for innovation. Businesses that focus on co-creation, leveraging new and emerging technologies, are most likely to be successful as the future continues to evolve around digital business,” Mike Foster said.
